Cure for the Common Drooping...flower bloom
Have you ever brought home some flowers for your wife, friend or family member, only to find them drooping far sooner than expected? Living in the Southern US, we often had HUGE, beautiful Magnolia trees nearby. At a special time of the year, they begin to go into a bloom cycle and, often, some of the blooms fall off or sometimes the blooms are removed carefully from the tree. In either case, when taking them into our home, my wife or sometimes myself, would place them in a drinking glass or vase, whatever was handy! Often times, after a short period, due to the configuration of the stem and the weight of the bloom (Magnolia blooms can be HUGE!), they would begin to "droop" rather than standing loud and proud and we both absolutely LOVE the scent of Magnolia blooms! One day I decided to try to rectify that situation and I developed a very simple, but also very efficient, way to keep the blooms standing tall! It took very little of my time and I was able to use scrap wood to create what I hoped was the cure for the common droop! I used a scrap piece of true Mahogany and a small hinge with matching clasp/latch that I had left over from earlier projects. As you can see, it is pretty simple and straight forward. Bore hole, cut block in half, install hinge on one side, clasp/latch on opposite side, place on top of glass or vase. open the block to place stem through the center then close the block and secure the clasp/latch! Pretty simple and works GREAT! Okay, sorry I got a little long winded so I'll move on for now, but I'll be checking back real soon! Until then...wishing you all a fun Spring and hoping we all can enjoy some nice, warm weather!!!
