Typical day, or so I believed...woke up, got out of bed, read some news while having my coffee and eventually worked my way out towards my shop. I quickly realized there seemed to be a storm of birds screaming and raising cane about something, but I had no idea what. I stopped, listened and moved a little closer towards where I felt the bulk of the noise was coming from. After a few stops and starts I found myself near the back portion of the lean-to that is attached to my shop! I felt I was in the right location to determine what was causing the ruckus but was having no luck identifying the cause or culprit. For some reason, I know not why, I found myself searching the trees and to my surprise I found the cause of all the chattering, ranting and raving! A Ribbon Snake was IN THE TREES, apparently "hunting" for some groceries, or perhaps some poultry for breakfast! Anyway, while I have heard of snakes hunting in this manner, I generally felt it was more common in South America, not in Southern America! A new surprise for me and a fun start to my day! From what I could tell, no harm was done as the snake was not near sneaky enough to avoid being spotted, then harassed, by many, many birds! I could not immediately identify the snake but after researching it, I believe it to be a Ribbon Snake. Looking at one of the pictures of him crawling on the ground and I tend to agree that Ribbon Snake is an appropriate name! Feel free to share any similar experiences you may have had that seemingly developed completely unexpectedly! Life it a hoot! Is it not!?!?
